Fire-hit campus on course to open
New Bridge Street Fire
The fire also destroyed a crane and seven cars
A flagship Tyneside university campus is set to open on time after developers battled to recover from the effects of an arson attack.

Northumbria University's new £100m campus in Newcastle, was hit by flames from a nearby block of flats targeted by arsonists in April.

The fire caused £1.5m of damage to the university's development.

But the builders have worked to ensure the campus will be open for its September start date.

Northumbria University director of estates Trevor Thurlow said: "In terms of construction, every project faces problems, but with the fire and a gas leak a few days later it really wasn't a very good week."
