New Year fun harks back to past
carousel ride
The fair will feature old-fashioned carousel rides
A Victorian funfair will mark the start of the New Year celebrations in Newcastle city centre.

Visitors will be able to enjoy old-fashioned fairground attractions or take a ride in a replica Victorian horse-drawn wagon.

There will also be street entertainment including music, dancing and comedy acts, at various locations on New Year's Eve itself.

And events will culminate in a firework and laser display at 5.30pm.

The fair will be set up around St Thomas Church, in front of the Civic Centre, on 29, 30 and 31 December.

It is part of an on-going Winter Festival which takes the place of a late-night quayside firework display on New Year's Eve.

Council leaders took the decision after last year's show was severely disrupted because of high winds and rain.
