The Coatham development will include homes and leisure facilities

Redcar and Cleveland council's plans for the Coatham Enclosure site include 250 new homes, a hotel, visitor tower and bingo hall.

But the protesters say valuable green land will be lost if the development goes ahead and that residents have not been consulted about the plans.

The council denies this, saying it has already held two public meetings.

Councillor Vera Moody, cabinet member for economic development, said: "We are now in the process of having a scrutiny commission, where members of the public are invited along to voice their concerns.

"We don't see this as loss of green land, but a huge exciting development - a £55m regeneration project for Redcar."

The march is taking place on Saturday afternoon in Redcar town centre.
