Severn Trent has announced it is spending £900,000 to improve its water supplies in Staffordshire.
The cash is being used to upgrade pumps at reservoirs serving Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Defunct pumps and tanks will be replaced at Coopers Green and at the Foxley pumping station.
A spokesman said the old pumps had been in place for 50 years and were becoming increasingly unreliable. The work should be complete by spring next year.
