Inquiry after inmate found hanged
An investigation is underway after a prisoner was found hanging in his cell at a Shrewsbury prison.

William Butterfield, from Biddulph in north Staffordshire, was found dead in his cell at The Dana on Saturday.

The 61-year-old, who had been in breach of his licence after being released from a 12-year jail sentence, was facing trial at Stoke Crown Court.

The Prison Service has launched an inquiry and the coroner has been informed of the death.

It is the third death by hanging at the prison in six months.
