Closed circuit TV monitoring in the Staffordshire Moorlands is to be transferred to a council in Cheshire, raising fears about the distance involved.
The cameras in the towns of Leek and Biddulph were originally monitored by the Britannia Building Society for free.
But concerns were raised about the time taken to access the tapes and monitoring which was only carried out if staff had the time.
The contract has now been given to Congleton Borough Council and cameras in Leek and Biddulph will be monitored from a base in Alsager.
There has been reservations about the distance involved but Staffordshire Moorlands District Council says the equipment and coverage at Alsager is up to date and staff will work well with police to ensure both towns stay safe.
The cameras for Cheadle will remain under the control of Alton Towers.
