More than 30 teams of people dressed in bizarre costumes have taken part in the 26th annual Bognor Birdman contest.

Entrants were aiming for the £25,000 jackpot for a flight of more than 100m in a human-powered flying machine.

The event took place on Sunday afternoon in showery conditions with one competitor managing 90m before nose-diving into the water.

No-one has yet achieved the feat in a competition which has grown to become an international event.

Many flyers take part to raise money for charity while others design complex machines with their eye on the prize money.

The contraptions flying off Bognor Regis pier this year ranged from flying cows to beautifully crafted aircraft.
