Sand artists head to seaside town
Sand sculpture
Visitors can see the work in progress throughout the week
Sand sculptors from around the world are due to arrive in Weston-super-Mare on Saturday to begin a five-day beach art session.

Twenty tonnes of sand are to be transformed into a piece of art on the North Somerset town's Beach Lawns.

Once a 10ft-square case of sand is compacted, the sculptors will carve away to create the sculpture which will be in place until September.

The process will be open for anyone to see throughout the forthcoming week.

Councillor Alan Hockridge said: "This is a wonderful addition to the attractions we provide on Weston beach, and compliments the other activities and entertainment offered."

The sculptors can carve almost anything from sand, including life-size models of cars, replicas of buildings, people and company logos.
