Around 400 pupils at St Dunstan's Community School and St Benedict's Junior School in Glastonbury will undergo the checks next week.

It is understood the worker who contracted TB has since been treated and is no longer contagious.

Health experts from the Dorset and Somerset Health Authority say the tests are a precaution.

A female member of staff, connected to both schools, contracted the disease.

It is not thought she is a member of the teaching staff.

Dr Sue Bennett, director of the Dorset and Somerset Health Protection Unit, said: "Skin tests are being carried out as a precautionary measure. There is no need to worry or panic.

"Although TB is an infectious disease, you do have to be in very close contact with an infected person to risk catching it."
