New traffic lights are to be used to ease congestion and reduce accidents at the Bath junction of the M4.
A trial of the lights at junction 18 of the motorway will start on Sunday. They are due to go live on 12 May.
The Highways Agency says the lights will reduce queues on slip roads and cut down on crashes.
Agency project sponsor Dave Frampton said: "The new lights will improve traffic flows, reducing congestion and improving safety."
According to the agency, long queues form on the slip road during rush hours. Sometimes traffic backs up on to the main carriageway of the M4.
There has also been a long history of accidents at the junction.
