A ban on drinking in public places, which covers much of Glastonbury town centre, has come into force.
Mendip District Council sought the ban under the Criminal Justice Act. The exclusion zone covers areas such as the High Street and Market Place
Police can fine anyone drinking on the streets up to £500.
Dennis Buffrey from Mendip Council said: "We are all proud of the area in which we live, and we will not tolerate drinking that causes offence to other."
Insp Rob Dean of Avon and Somerset Police added: "The provision of an alcohol exclusion zone will contribute greatly to reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour and nuisance in Glastonbury."
