Public touring 18th Century mill
Ditherington Flax Mill
Workers made flax for weavers for more than a century
An 18th Century flax mill, which had fallen into a state of neglect and decay, is opening its doors to 200 members of the public.

Ditherington Flax Mill in Shrewsbury, which is thought to be the world's first building with an iron frame, was bought this year by English Heritage.

It will decide the site's future along with Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council and Advantage West Midlands.

Shrewsbury Civic Society is to give a tour to the 200 people on Sunday.

For those without tickets, there will be two more open days next month at the building, which has stood empty since 1987.

Workers made flax for weavers for more than a century at the site.

The council had served a compulsory purchase order on the owner of the mill last year.
