Council warns of cash shortfall
Oswestry council officials say they are running out of money to pay for the upkeep of the borough's council houses.

The number of houses sold under the 'Right to Buy' scheme means rents will not cover the cost of maintaining the housing stock in 2008 or 2009.

Oswestry Borough Council says it will reach government housing standards by 2009, but will not be able to maintain it much after that date.

A tenants group is now being set up to look at ways of tackling the problem.

The council say it hopes to have a solution by Spring 2005.>
