Road closed for bridge repairs
A road in Shropshire had to be closed to repair a bridge which was partly destroyed in a car crash.

The A41 at Sandford Bridge was closed on Sunday to allow workers to remove temporary barriers.

Work to repair a damaged parapet has been going on since the start of the month.

The bridge's eastern parapet was virtually demolished when it was hit by a car in October.

Shropshire County Council erected temporary barriers over the bridge as a safety measure and rebuilding work using replacement stone started at the beginning of December.

The council said they had to close the road on a Sunday to minimise inconvenience and traffic was diverted via the A442.

The bridge was due to be reopened at 1700 GMT
