£4m revamp for city historic home
Wollaton Hall in Nottingham
Wollaton Hall gets the largest share of £15 m handed out on Friday
A Nottingham stately home and park are to get a £4.5m lottery-backed makeover.

Wollaton Hall was built in the 1580s and is claimed to be the most important Elizabethan house in Nottinghamshire.

The surrounding Grade I listed park is the largest open recreational space in the city. Its stable block will be transformed into an education centre.

The money, announced on Friday, will be used for major repairs to the hall, to restore the gardens and its important historic structures.

Carole Souter, director of the fund, said: "Lottery money is putting parks right back where they belong at the heart of their communities lives.

"Being able to restore these historic parks to their former glory is absolutely fantastic and will make a difference to the lives of so many people."

Five parks across the UK are sharing a £15m payout on Friday, with Wollaton getting the biggest handout.
