Plans for a huge expansion of an incinerating plant in the centre of Nottingham have moved a step forward.
The Environment Agency has confirmed it has received an application to install a third furnace at Eastcroft.
The site, near Ladybay Bridge currently burns around 150,000 tonnes of waste a year but a new furnace would increase this by 100,000 tonnes.
Friends of the Earth say the plans go against government guidelines and could hugely increase lorry traffic.
The Environment Agency says it will only issue a permit if it is convinced the expansion will not harm the environment or the health of local residents
