People in Keyworth and East Leake are being warned of a telephone scam, which could cost them over £20 a time.
Residents have alerted Notts police after receiving cards through the post saying a perishable item is being held at a delivery office for them.
It urged them to call a premium rate number to arrange delivery, depite not ordering anything through the post.
The calls can cost up to £1.50 a minute and it can take up to 13 minutes for people to listen to the message.
Police say everyone who has received a card has not received anything.
They are warning residents to be cautious and to make sure they know how much they are paying for a call.
