Civic leaders in Mansfield say steps are being taken to tackle a high level of sickness absence among staff.
The average sick leave is 13.8 days a year for each employee but officials say this figure is distorted by the amount of long-term sick leave.
But when those figures are excluded, it shows that on average every district council member of staff had nearly a week off sick in a year.
Now the council is working with trade union officials to tackle the problem.
The council's Chief Executive, Richard Goad, has sent a memo to all staff highlighting an unacceptably high level of sickness absence.
