It the first time the hospital has offered such awards - which aim to identify, celebrate and reward staff who have made a difference.

The awards will go to those who, in the last two years, have influenced patient care, clinical practice or research.

There will be also be a nurse or midwife of the year award. The prizes will be presented on 24 November.

All the 15 winners will receive cash prizes, with £1,000 going to the nurse or midwife of the year, who will be nominated by colleagues.

Nurses can nominate themselves or colleagues for the other awards, which will go to teams or individuals.

The presentations will be made at a dinner at Nottingham University.

The hospital's divisional midwife Linda Abolins said: "The awards will enable us to recognise and reward some of the nursing and midwifery staff at the City Hospital who have made an outstanding contribution to patient care."
