Calls are being made to reopen a rail line which closed in the 1960s.
Council officials in East Yorkshire plan to meet consultants to work out if it would be feasible to open the route between York and Beverley.
More than 6,000 people signed a petition calling for an engineering study to preserve the trackbed.
Experts would plan where to replace tracks on the former line in Beverley, Market Weighton, Pocklington, Stamford Bridge and the outskirts of York.
Supporters of the Minsters Rail Campaign say it would help alleviate congestion on the busy A1079, which has claimed 72 lives since 1984.
