A funeral service for a teenager who died while on a school trip has taken place.

The body of Harrogate Grammar School student Alex Foulkes, 17, was found by search teams on 16 July in the Italian Alps.

Alex had gone missing two days earlier while crossing a fast-flowing river in the Val d'Aosta area.

A private family service was held at Harrogate Crematorium on Friday.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on Thursday.

Following Alex's death the school immediately cancelled two planned trips for pupils to France.

Alex was reported missing three days into a two-week trekking holiday with 11 other students from the school.

The incident happened at Valgrisenche, near the French border.
