Go-ahead for UEA's £12m car park
The University of East Anglia is to go ahead with a controversial multi-storey car park which will cost £12m.

Opponents have criticised the scheme saying it was hypocritical for a university internationally renowed for its research on global warming.

The university council provisionally approved the project on Monday morning.

Dr Andrew Boswell, of the Sustainable Transport Action Group, said the car park, planned for 2007, was setting the wrong example.

The university is expected to announce that it will look at more environmentally friendly options in the meantime such as encouraging more walking and cycling.
