Car cruisers in police talks
Norfolk Police
Police talk over issues with car cruisers at Great Yarmouth
Police are discussing car cruising at a major North Sea resort with vehicle owners regarded as a local nuisance.

The meeting at the Caister Road sports stadium in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, has heard owners claim that car cruising can be a harmless activity.

However, they have also admitted a small minority can bring down the reputation of the majority.

Police want to improve relations with the owners and to ensure activities stay within the law.

The so-called 'cruisers' have accepted displays of dangerous driving, playing of loud music and causing congestion on the roads were all unacceptable.

A spokesman said: "We want to portray a more positive image. Most owners are just proud to show off their vehicles - that's a harmless activity."

Police say this weekend's event organised with car cruisers should help officers build a better relationship with the drivers.

They hope, in turn, it win them more tolerance and understanding from the public.

On Sunday there will be a display and series of competitions held at the stadium on Caister Road and many will then parade their cars along the golden mile.
