A controversial proposal for a new Tesco superstore in the heart of an historic town in Norfolk has cleared a major planning hurdle.
Plans for the store in Fakenham have caused concern from some local people that it may jeopardise existing shops.
Norfolk County Council planners have now said they have no reason to object to the proposals, though they say the transport link is "far from ideal".
A final decision will be made by North Norfolk District Council.
Tesco plans to build the store on the site of a former factory and garage in Oak Street.
Government policy and local plans encourage the building of food stores in town centre areas because they are accessible by public transport and to pedestrians.
