Father-of-three Doctor Abdullah Eltom, 51, was arrested on Tuesday when police found the woman's body at the house in Thornton, Merseyside.
The woman, who was allegedly asphyxiated, has not been publicly identified by police. She is not thought to be his wife.
Dr Eltom was due before South Sefton magistrates on Wednesday.
