Yoko Ono says her work is an homage to motherhood
Yoko Ono is to exhibit photographs commissioned as part of a contemporary art festival in Liverpool.

The experimental artist's work, My Mummy Was Beautiful, will be on show at John Lennon Airport from Thursday.

The photographs, which are an homage to motherhood, show images of a woman's breasts and crotch.

Lewis Biggs, Director of the third Liverpool Biennial, says the 71-year-old's work should be appreciated and not condemned.

"They will be controversial," he said.

"Naturally I hope that it offends nobody because there is no reason why it should offend anybody.

"The photographs we are being given are of a body that is very beautiful, so why should there be a problem?"

Ono recreated her landmark work, Cut Piece, in Paris last year in an effort to promote world peace, but left the stage in her underwear.

The Biennial runs until 28 November at Tate Liverpool, The Walker, Bluecoat Arts Centre and FACT, as well as smaller galleries and venues across the city.
