Two BNP candidates deny assault
Two British National Party (BNP) candidates standing in the local elections have denied assault charges.

Joseph Owens, 42, who is standing in Norris Green, Liverpool, denied assaulting David Robinson outside The University of Salford on 24 March.

Tony Wentworth, 22, standing for Irwell Riverside, denied using threatening words against Mr Robinson and assaulting another man on 23 March.

Both men were bailed to reappear in court on 12 July.

Mr Owens was granted unconditional bail and Young BNP leader Mr Wentworth was granted conditional bail.
