Passengers could face disruption in the run-up to Christmas after drivers at Manchester's largest bus company voted against accepting a new pay deal.
The Transport and General Workers' Union announced the results of the ballot of 1,000 drivers from Stagecoach Manchester on Thursday.
A TGWU spokesman said a meeting would now take place of workers to decide if and when to take industrial action.
Drivers want a 7% pay increase to be spread over a 12-month period rather than the 18-month period agreed by managers.
Stagecoach is the biggest bus company in Manchester and serves the south of the city.
