X Factor winner Steve Brookstein is to donate the proceeds of his debut single to the Asian tsunami relief effort.
Steve, from Mitcham, south London,
is expected to reach number one in the
pop charts this Sunday with a cover of Phil Collins' Against All Odds.
The singer's mentor, Simon Cowell, said: "It's quite obvious they need the money as quickly as possible."
Thousands were killed when a huge undersea earthquake struck on Sunday devastating coastlines in 12 countries.
Steve beat quartet G4 in the show to win a £1m recording contract in front of a TV audience of 9.7m.
The 35-year-old's single entered the charts at number two last week.
The donation will include all the back sales and is believed to be worth several hundred thousand pounds.
The X Factor is to return for a second series after ITV announced it had been recommissioned.
A US version is also planned on the back of its success in the UK.
