Police bosses want to push up council tax bills across Lincolnshire to help the fight against crime.
The police authority said it urgently needs the extra money for front-line policing in the county.
It said the police share of the council tax bill must rise next year to deliver an efficient and effective service and meet new national policing pressures.
The Home Office can only afford a 3% funding increase, but Lincolnshire needs a 10% to 20% rise.
The force is facing pressure to meet cost increases which are outside their control.
These include new requirements from the Bichard report following the Soham murders, forensic services and police pensions.
