Cyclists in Leicester are being offered high-visibility jackets to encourage them to learn about carbon footprints.
The city council has set up a website with information and tips on reducing carbon emissions and is offering people the jackets if they register.
A council spokesman said the vests helped to make environmentally friendly transport much safer.
The council's campaign website tells cyclists: "You are the world's ultimate source of renewable energy."
The council's climate change officer, Mark Fortune, said: "We want people to log onto the new climate change website to find out about reducing carbon emissions in 2008.
"An easy way for most people to do this is to replace car travel with walking, cycling and public transport."
