Police to deal with troublemakers
Police in a Leicestershire town could soon be given new powers to disperse groups of young troublemakers.

Officers say most anti-social behaviour in Melton Mowbray is caused by youths drinking and causing criminal damage in the town centre.

Melton Borough Council is considering granting police the power to disperse groups of youngsters.

In May similar powers were given to officers in Wigston who say it has helped reduce anti-social behaviour.

The new powers would give police the right to take home people under 16 who are thought to be causing trouble, and to order groups of youngsters to disperse.
