Council boss to get £140,000 wage
The next chief executive of East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be paid more than £140,000 a year, officials say.

The authority is advertising for a new person to take over from Darryl Stephenson, who retires in September.

Mr Stephenson has been chief executive of the council since its inception in 1996 and was its first employee.

Officials say his replacement will lead a council considered one of the pace setters in local government and rated "excellent" by the Audit Commission.

The post is to be advertised in local government journals on Thursday with an annual salary of £140,000, although the entire package is worth £150,000.

The job literature says the winning candidate is expected to lead a workforce "committed to delivering excellence".
