An investigation is under way into the cause of freak conditions on a North Lincolnshire canal.
A problem with a lock gate caused a mini tidal wave pulling barges and narrow boats from their moorings on the Keadby Canal on Sunday.
British Waterways believe a mechanical failure may have caused the problem.
The lock gate failure resulted in a nine-knot current sweeping up the canal forcing Sea Cadets to put to shore and causing damage to berthed vessels.
One witness told BBC Radio Humberside that she believed the prompt actions of the first people on the scene averted a tragedy.
