Police will mount a purge on street drinkers

A ban on drinking alcohol in public is being extended in an East Yorkshire village in a bid to curb unruly behaviour.
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has moved in partnership with police and Cottingham Parish Council to extend a scheme to outlaw the consumption of alcohol in the street.
No-drinking zones in the village, which sits on the outskirts of Hull, will include: King Street, car parks to the rear of King Street shops, including Safeway's, Hallgate Memorial Gardens, Market Green, the pavilion and king George V playing fields and Cotta Court.
Police in the village say they will take positive action against anyone breaking the ban, including reporting offences for prosecution, possibly resulting in a fine of up to £500, as well as seizing and pouring away alcohol.
And joint operations between the council anti-social behaviour team and police will take place over coming weekends in an attempt to reduce noise, nuisance and under-age drinking offences.

Inspector Andy Woodhead of Cottingham's local policing team said: "Children aged between 12 and 18 are regularly drinking alcohol in public places in Cottingham.
"They are causing general nuisance, damage and using threatening behaviour which will not be tolerated."
