Inmates at a category B prison have returned to their cells after they staged a "passive protest" outside.
On Wednesday afternoon 22 inmates at Winchester prison refused to go inside and stayed in the exercise yard, a Prison Service spokeswoman said.
The inmates at the jail spent the afternoon shouting in the yard and were reported to have made various demands.
The protest ended at 1830 BST when specially trained officers moved in to remove the inmates, said a spokeswoman.
No-one was injured in the incident.
The jail, which houses about 600 inmates, was recently criticised for high levels of drug abuse by inmates.
