Stone-loading wharf is modernised
Work is under way to modernise an old stone-loading wharf on the banks of the River Severn in Gloucestershire.

A wooden chute, formerly used to load stoning material on to barges for bank repairs along the estuary, is being demolished as part of the scheme.

A safer platform is being built in its place to allow a crane to take over the loading job at the Minsterworth site.

The £50,000 project is being carried out by the Environment Agency for the safety of contractors and the public.

Flood defence engineer Steve Novak said: "These improvement works will enable a safer and more cost effective means for loading the stoning material on to barges for flood defence embankment stabilisation works throughout the River Severn."
