Recycling plan to include plastic
Recycling efforts in the Cotswolds are to be expanded this summer to include plastic containers.

At the moment, only glass is accepted at the council's bottle banks across the district.

But soon, fizzy drink, detergent and milk bottles can all be put into new recycling hoppers.

Items like yoghurt pots and plastic bags will not be included, because they are made of different materials and do not break down so easily.

Bulky waste

Plastic takes up a large amount of room in landfill sites because it is light and bulky.

It also takes hundreds of years to decompose.

Cotswold District council hopes the scheme will help it meet the government's recycling target of 40% by 2005-2006.
