MP's concern at loss of payphones
An MP is urging BT to re-think plans to get rid of more than 250 payphones across Essex.

Chelmsford West MP Simon Burns fears that the loss of these phones will hit rural communities the hardest.

He said they provide a lifeline for many village residents. BT said the phones were being taken out of service because they were little used.

The BT spokesman added that the growth of mobile phones meant people did not need public payphones.
