New teachers in Southend have swapped careers
|
More than 30 teachers are preparing to start work in Southend-on-Sea, where schools are suffering staff shortages.
The new recruits have all completed a course enabling them to side-step into teaching from other careers.
The 33 newcomers now moving into new posts took part in a Government funded graduate teacher programme.
This helps entrants gain experience - and earn an income while training in the classroom - before taking up their full-time posts.
Officials at Southend running the one-year programme are now looking for people with skills in mathematics and science.
It is the third year the programme has been running in Southend.
