Beach resort unaffected by sewage
Sun seekers heading for the Essex coast this weekend have been reassured the water has not been affected by a recent sewage leak in London.

Storms on Tuesday forced 600,000 tonnes of untreated sewage into the Thames.

The Environment Agency has confirmed the sewage was contained and beaches close to the Thames estuary around Southend were not contaminated.

Southend Borough Council said bathers in the area can be confident about the quality of the water.
