Travellers appeal eviction notice
A planning inspector is considering an appeal by a group of travellers who were served with an enforcement notice to leave their own land in Essex.

The travellers were served with the notice by Basildon District Council.

The council said they did not have planning permission to live in caravans on the site, which is a green belt area at Crays Hill, near Wickford.

It also says the site is "unauthorised" and has a "serious impact" on the area. A ruling is expected next month.

A total of 23 travellers have appealed against the council's notice.

Officials said the caravans, mobile homes and vehicles had a "serious impact" on the openness of the Greenbelt which is protected from development.
