The coast displays evidence of 185 million years of evolution

Possible heritage sites are being considered in Seaton and Exmouth.

Wardens say increasing numbers of people are coming to the Heritage Coastline, which won an international tourism award in April.

About £400,000 is already being invested at Charmouth in Dorset,and the Heritage Coast Centre in Charmouth says it wants to share its knowledge.

Unique evidence

Meirel Whaites, the senior warden in Charmouth said: "We've got Heritage Lottery funding and also funding from the Fine Family Foundation to renovate our centre.

"But when you start at Exmouth and come along the coast, we're the first major centre on the Jurassic Coast at present.

"There really needs to be a provision between Exmouth and here so we can expand the knowledge we've got to disseminate to the general public."

The 100-mile (161km) area between Exmouth and Swanage is considered to be the only place in the world which displays unbroken evidence of 185 million years of evolution.
