Chartered carrier Palmair which operates out of Bournemouth airport came second with 78% of customers saying they would recommend it.

Nearly half of the passengers that used Flybe - which flies out of Southampton airport - said they would recommend the service in the Holiday Which? survey.

The biggest concerns among readers were leg room, seat comfort and catering.

Airline food

Singapore Airlines came top of the list, with 82% definitely recommending it.

EasyJet (51%), Flybe (48%), Monarch Scheduled (46%) and bmibaby (42%) all did much better than a number of established scheduled carriers such as Air Canada, United Airlines, American Airlines and Lufthansa.

Two in five of all charter flight passengers were unhappy with the leg room provided.

Fewer than one fifth of respondents were "very satisfied" with airline food.
