Launch of elite sailing academy
Portland Sailing Academy
Portland National Sailing Academy would be a venue for the Olympics
A £7.85m purpose-built sailing academy which could host the Olympic sailing events in 2012 has been opened.

The official unveiling ceremony of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy was attended by the Princess Royal on Thursday.

If London wins the bid for the next Olympics in 2012 the academy will provide the base for most of the sailing contests.

A series of sailing events is being held to celebrate the opening.
