Council tax for a band D property in Devon has risen by 95.5% between 1997 and the current financial year, it was disclosed on Thursday.
Devon had the highest percentage increase in a league table of English counties published by Local Government Minister Nick Raynsford.
The figure was revealed in a Commons written reply.
The lowest rise was Cumbria with 63.1%, while Lancashire recorded 64.9% and
Durham 65.4%.
Close behind Devon were Norfolk with a 94.5% increase over the period for the same council band, Cambridgeshire with 93.4% and North Yorkshire with 92.2%.
