Plans to move a city centre war memorial in Derby have been criticised by veterans.
The city council is looking at moving the Cenotaph from Market Place to nearer the cathedral.
It follows proposals to incorporate the Sir Peter Hilton Memorial Garden into a £9m arts centre and cinema.
Richard Bannister, chairman of the Derby and District ex-services association, said: "I feel dumbfounded as to why they want to move it."
He added the proposed location was too remote.
Mr Bannister said: "In the future, as we get older and die off, will it (interest) die down, will it mean no more to the public in those days as Agincourt does to our generation?"
