Bid to ease care worker shortage
Cash incentives are being offered to social workers in Derby to try to combat a severe staff shortage.

The city council is giving out golden handshakes and retention bonuses to care workers in an attempt to make the job more appealing.

Earlier this year targets for helping young people on the child protection register were not being met.

Cllr Evonne Berry, cabinet member for social care and health, said there was a problem but it is now under control.

She said: "It was a glitch in the system - there's not an excuse good enough for it.

"I'm hoping the remedies we've put in place mean that it won't happen again."
