Salaries are getting higher in the Peak District

Some 68% more people in High Peak were earning £60,000 a year or more this April than a year earlier, according to the research.

The study was carried out by Barclays Financial Planning.

Stephen Mendel, from Barclays, said many of the fastest growing areas were outside London.

He said: "Desirable rural areas such as the Peak District and the English/Welsh borders are attracting ever greater numbers of the affluent who are choosing to live in the country, whilst commuting to their well-paid jobs in the large cities."

A close second is Monmouth, on the Welsh borders, where 66% more were earning more than £60,000 compared with the year before.

Another Welsh district, Cardiff North, is third, followed by Manchester, Withington and Keighley, in West Yorkshire.
