Police are warning elderly people to be on their guard after the discovery of a scam based on winning a lottery.
A Lincoln couple in their 80s were telephoned by a man saying he was from the National Lottery Payout Service in Rotterdam.
He told them they had won £100,000, but he later rang back and demanded a payment of £5,000 to cover local taxes.
A family member intervened before any payment was made.
Police officers say this type of fraud is on the increase and people should be on their guard.
